Hochiki’s ACD Multi-Sensor wins top honour at Intersec 2026

Some exciting news from the fire safety industry: Hochiki’s ACD Multi-Sensor with CO Detection has been awarded “Best Active Fire Safety Product 2026” at the Intersec Awards in Dubai. The Intersec Awards recognise innovation across the global security and fire protection industries, making this a notable achievement for the manufacturer.

What the recognition means

Industry awards like this highlight where manufacturers are pushing development in specific technology areas. In this case, the focus is on integrated detection – combining multiple sensing elements into a single device. For installers, it’s useful to know which products are gaining recognition from industry experts, particularly when clients ask about the latest developments in fire detection technology.

The technology behind the award

The ACD combines smoke, heat, and carbon monoxide detection in one addressable device. This integrated approach can simplify installation compared to deploying separate detectors for different threats, potentially reducing cable runs and device counts on larger projects. The unit offers 24 different certified operating modes and carries approvals for EN 54 Parts 5, 7, 26, 29, 30, and 31.

The CO cell is fully monitored with end-of-life warning at the panel and is rated for a 10-year lifespan under normal conditions. It’s designed to work as both a fire detector and a carbon monoxide alarm, which may be relevant for certain applications where both fire and toxic gas risks need addressing.

Integrated detection in context

Multi-sensor technology continues to develop across the industry, with various manufacturers offering different approaches to combining detection elements. Hochiki’s award reflects their particular implementation of this technology, which uses sophisticated detection algorithms designed to reduce false alarms whilst maintaining sensitivity to genuine threats. Whether integrated sensors are the right solution depends entirely on the specific requirements of each project and the environment being protected.
