What is the maximum detection range of the Superior MotionCam HD (PhOD) Jeweller?

The detector can identify motion at distances up to 12 metres (39 feet) with a horizontal viewing angle of 88.5°. For optimal performance, the detector should be installed at a height of 2.4 metres with the sensor direction perpendicular to the intended entry path.

How does the pet immunity feature work?

When properly installed and configured, the detector does not react to pets weighing up to 20kg and below 50cm in height. The SmartDetect algorithm analyses the thermal signature, heat spot size, movement speed, and time spent in the detection zone to distinguish between pets and human intruders.

What photo resolutions are available and how many photos can be taken?

The detector supports four resolution options: 160×120, 320×240, 640×480 (default), and 960×720 pixels. You can configure the device to take 1 to 5 photos per alarm event, with the maximum number depending on the selected resolution. Lower resolutions allow for more photos in a series (up to 5), whilst the highest resolutions support up to 3 photos.

How quickly are photos delivered after an alarm?

Photo delivery time depends on the selected resolution and connection quality. At the default 640×480 resolution, photos are delivered in up to 11 seconds when connected directly to the hub. Lower resolutions deliver faster (160×120 in up to 3 seconds), whilst the highest resolution (960×720) takes up to 15.5 seconds. These times may be longer when connected via a range extender.

Can I take photos on demand without an alarm?

Yes, the Photo on demand feature allows authorized users to request photos at any time to check the situation at the facility. A hub administrator or user with privacy settings access must first enable this feature and grant specific permissions to users. You can configure whether photos can be taken at any time or only when the detector is armed.

What is the difference between Jeweller and TurboWings protocols?

Jeweller is used to transmit alarms and events to the hub with a range of up to 1,700 metres in open space. TurboWings is a dedicated protocol specifically designed for transmitting photos, providing the bandwidth needed for image data. Both protocols use encrypted communication and operate on frequency bands between 868.0-868.6 MHz.

How long do the batteries last?

With the Photo on demand feature disabled, the pre-installed CR123A batteries provide up to 4 years of operation. With Photo on demand enabled, battery life is up to 3 years. The system will send early low battery warnings, and after this notification, the detector can continue operating for up to 2 months.

Will the detector work in extreme temperatures?

The detector features temperature compensation technology, allowing it to detect movement reliably even when the ambient temperature is close to human body temperature. The operating temperature range is -10°C to +40°C (14°F to 104°F). The device is designed for indoor use only.

What happens to photos taken by the detector?

Photos are stored securely in the Ajax cloud with encrypted transmission. Only authorized system users can access and view photos. The event log stores the last 500 system events with device information, time, and event description. On-demand photos are linked to the user who requested them. Photos are not processed or analysed by Ajax Systems, and users maintain full control over their data.

Can the detector be integrated with other security devices?

Yes, Superior MotionCam HD (PhOD) Jeweller fully integrates with the Ajax ecosystem. When motion is detected, it can trigger connected sirens, activate automation scenarios, send notifications to users and monitoring stations, and coordinate with other Ajax devices. You can create complex scenarios where photos are taken based on alarms from other Ajax devices.

How do I prevent false alarms?

The detector uses the SmartDetect algorithm which combines PIR and microwave sensors to analyse multiple parameters including infrared radiation intensity, heat spot size, time in detection zone, and RF scanning. You can also adjust sensitivity across four levels (Low, Normal, High, Very High) to suit your environment. Proper installation away from heat sources, direct sunlight, and air flows is essential for minimizing false alarms.

Is this detector suitable for professional security installations?

Can I use this detector with a range extender?

Yes, the detector is compatible with ReX 2 Jeweller radio signal range extenders. You must first add the detector to the hub, then connect it to the ReX 2 Jeweller through the range extender’s settings. Note that photo delivery times may be slightly longer when operating through a range extender.

How do I know if the detector is working properly?

The detector features an LED indicator that provides visual feedback for various events including motion detection, photo capture, connection status, and battery level. You can also run several tests through the Ajax app including Jeweller signal strength test, Wings signal strength test, detection zone test, and signal attenuation test to verify proper operation.
