What is the difference between Grade 2 and Grade 3, and can I choose which grade to use?

The Scantronic 400WE is unique in being selectable as either Grade 2 or Grade 3 to meet EN50131 and PD6662:2017 standards. Grade 2 is suitable for low to medium risk properties where intruders are expected to have limited knowledge and tools. Grade 3 is designed for higher risk environments where intruders may be skilled and equipped with specialist tools. The system can be configured during installation to meet the specific grade requirements of your property or insurance policy.

How many zones can the system support and how does the decimal expansion system work?

The 400WE starts with 10 FSL zones on board and can expand to 400 zones total. The decimal expansion system provides 10 zones per expander (plus the 10 on-board zones), which is 25% more efficient than traditional 8-zone expanders. This makes zone numbering intuitive and reduces the total number of expanders needed for large installations. A 30-zone radio expander is also available for wireless device integration.

What is Flexibus and how does it benefit installation?

Flexibus is Eaton’s technology that allows the four performance buses on the 400WE to function as a single logical bus. You can connect expanders and keypads to any of the four buses and address them as though there was only one bus, providing maximum installation flexibility and simplifying system design for complex layouts.

How does the dual battery system work?

The 400WE can accommodate up to two 17Ah batteries, each independently charged and monitored by the control panel. This dual battery configuration provides extended backup runtime during mains power failures, essential for large commercial premises requiring continuous protection. The independent monitoring ensures you’re alerted if either battery develops a fault.

What communication options are available?

The control panel includes built-in Ethernet connectivity as standard. Optional plug-on communicators are available for PSTN (telephone line), GSM (2G cellular), WiFi, or 4G cellular communications. All communications with SecureConnect cloud and app use SSL/TLS encryption for security. The system also provides 16 communication outputs for signaling to monitoring stations or auxiliary equipment.

What is semi-auto addressing and audible bus device tracing?

Semi-auto addressing is a feature that prevents address duplication when adding bus-mounted devices, saving hours of installation diagnostic time by automatically detecting and preventing conflicts. Audible bus device tracing allows you to activate a sound on any specific bus device (keypad, expander, etc.) to quickly locate it during installation, commissioning, or maintenance, significantly reducing service call times.

How many users and partitions does the system support?

The 400WE supports up to 400 individual user codes, making it suitable for large commercial premises with many staff members. The system can be divided into up to 50 separate partitions, each with 3 part-set options, allowing different areas or tenants to operate independently with their own arming schedules and access permissions.

Is the system suitable for harsh environments?

Yes, the 400WE is rated as Environmental Class 2, designed to operate in temperatures from -10°C to 55°C with up to 93% relative humidity. This makes it suitable for a wide range of commercial and industrial environments including warehouses, factories, and outdoor-protected installations.
