Summary

The Scantronic EXP-PSU series comprises three wired expanders with integrated power supplies, designed and approved for use as part of security Grade 2 or 3 systems. These bus-connected intelligent expanders are intended for use on all i-on control panels, providing a comprehensive solution that combines zone expansion with reliable power management in a single unit.

Each model in the EXP-PSU range features ten wired zones with four outputs on board, offering exceptional installation flexibility with a choice of zone wiring options. These include FSL with various resistor values and 2 wire or 4 wire CC configurations for takeover of legacy systems. The range includes the EXP-PSU-SM with 1 amp power supply in a small metal housing, the EXP-PSU-MM with 2 amp supply in a medium metal housing, and the EXP-PSU-LM with 3 amp supply in a large metal housing capable of accommodating two 17Ah batteries.

A host of installer-friendly features are designed to save time on installation and service visits. The decimal expansion system allows for more zones per expander whilst making zone identification easier. Semi-automatic addressing makes configuration much simpler with no address duplication or lost address links. The built-in device locator enables installers to find any expander on site by simply activating the buzzer inside the unit and walking the site listening for it, significantly reducing troubleshooting time.

FAQs

What are the main differences between the EXP-PSU-SM, MM and LM models?

The three models differ in power supply capacity, battery backup options and physical size. The EXP-PSU-SM features a 1A power supply with capacity for a single 7Ah battery in a small metal housing. The EXP-PSU-MM provides a 2A power supply with capacity for a single 17Ah battery in a medium metal housing. The EXP-PSU-LM offers a 3A power supply with capacity for two 17Ah batteries in a large metal housing, making it suitable for larger installations requiring higher power demands.

Which control panels are the EXP-PSU expanders compatible with?

The EXP-PSU series expanders are designed to work with all Scantronic i-on control panels via bus connection, providing seamless integration and intelligent communication.

What security grades do these expanders support?

The EXP-PSU-SM is approved for Grade 2 installations only. The EXP-PSU-MM and EXP-PSU-LM are approved for both Grade 2 and Grade 3 installations installed to PD6662:2017 standards.

What zone wiring options are available?

The expanders support FSL (Four State Logic) with various resistor values, as well as 2 wire or 4 wire CC (Closed Circuit) configurations, making them ideal for new installations or takeover of legacy systems.

How does the semi-automatic addressing feature work?

Semi-automatic addressing simplifies the configuration process by eliminating manual address setting complexities. This feature prevents address duplication and lost address links, significantly reducing installation time and potential configuration errors.

What is the decimal expansion system?

The decimal expansion system allows for more zones per expander whilst making zone identification much easier. This system simplifies the process of locating and managing zones across multiple expanders on larger installations.

How do I locate a specific expander on a large site?

Each expander features a built-in device locator with a buzzer. Simply activate the buzzer through the control panel or configuration software, then walk the site listening for the buzzer sound to quickly identify the physical location of any expander.

Can I use these expanders for outdoor installations?

The EXP-PSU series expanders are rated Environmental Class 2, which means they are designed for indoor use in controlled environments. For outdoor or harsh environment applications, additional weatherproof enclosures would be required.
