FAQ
What is the SmartCell Control Panel?
The SmartCell Control Panel is a wireless fire detection and alarm system control unit that operates in the 868 MHz frequency band. It’s designed to work with up to 64 wireless devices including detectors, sounders, manual call points, and information devices, providing comprehensive fire protection without the need for hardwired connections.
What are the different access levels available?
The panel has four access levels: Level 1 (daily use with limited functions), Level 2 (advanced end users with full menu access using code 2222), Level 3 (engineer/service access using code 333333), and Level 4 (factory access). Access can be gained either by entering the appropriate code or using the enable key switch where fitted.
How many devices can the system support?
The SmartCell system can support up to 64 wireless devices total, with a maximum of 32 detection devices. It can accommodate up to 48 fire zones and 48 information zones, with zones 1-16 having dedicated LED indication on the panel.
What power options are available?
The control panel is available in both 230 VAC and 24 VDC versions. The 230 VAC version includes a built-in power supply with 48-hour battery backup capability, while the 24 VDC version requires external dual power sources to meet specific regional requirements.
How do I clear a fire alarm?
To clear a fire alarm: First ensure it’s safe to do so and follow evacuation procedures. Press ‘SILENCE BUZZER’ to stop the panel buzzer, enter access level 2 (keyswitch or code), press ‘SOUND/SILENCE’ to stop sounders, then press ‘RESET’ to clear the alarm. If using manual call points, ensure they are physically reset with the reset key.
What communication options are available?
The panel can connect to the internet via Ethernet and/or 3G/GPRS when fitted with a communications module. This enables remote monitoring, SMS/email notifications, remote configuration, and connection to Alarm Receiving Centres (ARCs) through SmartCell Services.
Can I disable individual devices or zones?
Yes, the system allows permanent or timed disablements (1-24 hours) of individual devices, zones, or system functions. For dual-function devices, you can disable individual elements (e.g., just smoke or heat detection). The panel display will show ‘Disablements Active’ when any disablements are in place.
How do I test the system?
The system offers multiple testing options: Test individual zones or all zones with or without sounder operation, use zone walk test mode for comprehensive device testing with LED feedback, or use the test event listing to track which devices have been tested. Always inform your ARC before testing if applicable.
What information devices are supported?
The system supports information contact transmitters (for monitoring doors/windows), information manual call points (panic alarms), and information sounders with visual indicators. These generate separate information alerts for non-fire monitoring applications like security systems or equipment monitoring.
How do I view the event history?
Access the event history through Access Level 2 menu > View System Status > Event History. Events can be filtered by type (Fire, Information, Fault, or All Events) with up to 1000 events stored. Each entry shows the event type, device location, time, and date.
What languages are supported?
The panel supports primary and secondary language programming. Users can toggle between languages using Function 1 button or through the Language Select menu. When using secondary language, the system automatically reverts to primary language after menu timeout plus 30 seconds of inactivity.
How do I change user access codes?
Access Level 2 master users can manage up to 10 additional Level 2 users through Panel Information > Passwords menu. The master user can add, remove, change names and codes for all Access Level 2 users. The default master code is 2222 and should be changed during installation.
